2025 CEPL Annual Impact Report

We are proud to celebrate an incredible year at the Cancer Exercise & Physiotherapy Lab (CEPL) at UBC. Themed “The Year of the CHALLENGE Trial,” our 2025 Impact Report highlights the meaningful progress we have made in advancing exercise and rehabilitation research for people living with and beyond cancer.

This year, 197 participants took part in CEPL studies, and our work was featured in 24 media quotes and interviews. Our research team presented at conferences around the world, from Vancouver and Calgary to Seoul, Madrid, and Lisbon.

Our active research programs continued to make strides across multiple cancer types, including advanced lung cancer (MOVE), advanced breast and colorectal cancer (CaRE-AC), breast cancer arm function (AMS), and other tumour sites (CaRE@Home, EXCEL). We also continued delivering breast cancer supportive care ECHO educational sessions for healthcare professionals across Canada and organizing monthly international exercise oncology webinars for practitioners and researchers worldwide.

The lab produced 20 journal publications, 13 conference abstracts, and 10 podium presentations this year. Our Bone Metastases & Exercise Hub reached 13,500 website views across 69 countries, with over 950 professionals enrolled in our professional development course.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our mission to improve the lives of cancer patients through the power of exercise.
