Happy Holidays from the Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab!

Happy holidays from the Clinical Exercise Physiology Lab at UBC! We hope 2012 has been a great year for all of you.

We have had a busy year here in the lab. We have welcomed two new graduate students to our team. Stanley has joined us from the University of Toronto, and will be doing his Master’s project on physical activity levels of childhood cancer survivors. Negin completed her undergraduate degree here at UBC, and will be looking at cognitive function over time in those undergoing chemotherapy for colon cancer.  Amy and Sarah are both continuing to work on their PhDs and will be preparing for their comprehensive exams in the spring.

The Weight Loss Trial (2009-2010) data were published in April in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. We are in the final stages of preparing a second paper with the findings from the focus groups that some of you participated in, and hope to submit that in the new year.

We are still actively recruiting for our study looking at the effects of aerobic exercise on cognitive function in women after chemotherapy for breast cancer. We are still looking for women who report cognitive changes after chemotherapy, as well as a comparison group of women who had breast cancer but did not receive chemotherapy. We were excited to generate some press for this study this summer and fall, with features in UBC reports (http://www.publicaffairs.ubc.ca/2012/06/06/blame-it-on-chemo-brain/) and on CBC news (https://cepl.rehab.med.ubc.ca/2012/06/27/588/)!

Tiffany has done an amazing job creating a CEPL website where you can keep up to date with the studies we are working on, and other happenings within the lab. The website is https://cepl.rehab.med.ubc.ca or you can follow us on Twitter @CEPL_UBC.

Wishing you and your families a happy and healthy 2013!
